LAHAINA PAYS TRIBUTE TO LIFE OF DR. SUN YAT-SEN, FATHER OF MODERN CHINA

HULA O NA KEIKI
November 11 & 12, 2016 • 4:00 pm - 4:00pm
Hula O Na Keiki is a solo hula competition for children ages 5-17. Participants are required to learn, interpret, and perform a specific Maui chant. The hula competition is just one facet of a two-day event designed to allow participants the opportunity to learn about and nurture Hawaiian cultural values.

HAWAIIAN MUSIC SERIES IN LAHAINA
November 17, 2016 • 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Lahaina Restoration Foundation presents a free, monthly concert outdoors on the lawn of Baldwin Home Museum at the corner of Front and Dickenson Streets. Hawaiian musicians perform in the kanikapila style on the last Thursday of each month.

TURKEY TROT
November 24, 2016 • 7:00 am - 10:30am
The Turkey Trot is a unique race where the winners are the runners who are closest to guessing their time in the 16 mile or 8 mile runs, not who crosses the finish line first. No timing devises are allowed.. no cheating …

Course: Starts and finishes at Rice Park in the parking area off of Lower Kula Rd.
Distance: 8 Mile out and back. 16 Mile which is two loops.
Registration Cost: Non-Members $15.00, VIRR Members Free until race day.
Race day registration for everyone will be $20.

MAUI JIM MAUI INVITATIONAL HOSTED BY OREGON STATE
December 2 & 3, 2016 • 10:00 am - 11:00 pm
This inaugural Women’s NCAA Division I College Basketball Tournament will feature host school Oregon State, coming off their Final Four appearance and finishing 2nd in the nation. Joining Oregon State will be Brigham Young University (BYU), University of Idaho, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).


The two-day tournament will feature two games per day, food trucks, live entertainment by local and international recording artists, “The Voice” Season 6 Finalist Biff Gore, ukulele virtuoso Derick Sebastian, and much more. Additionally, each day of the tournament will conclude with a slam-dunk performance by 2011 Sprite LA Slam Dunk Champion, Kenny Dobbs. The public is invited to purchase $10 game-day passes online as well as view an up-to-date event schedule at basketballmaui.com as the event date approaches.

WILLIE WONDERLAND

Willie K returns to his popular holiday concert which is sure to be filled with old favorites and new surprises – all for the benefit of his many fans, friends, and family. Willie Kahaialii is a charismatic, supremely talented, and versatile entertainer who is a multiple award-winner and a living legend on Maui. He has reworked traditional Hawaiian music to make it more contemporary, winning several Na Hoku Hanohano Awards along the way. Join Willie K and his special guests for a holiday concert of traditional and Hawaiian favorites.

BANYAN TREE LIGHTING
December 3, 2016 • 9:00 am - 7:00 pm & December 4, 2016 • 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
The LahainaTown Action Committee will host the 19th Annual Lighting of the Banyan Tree in downtown Lahaina the first weekend in December. Saturday December 3rd and Sunday December 4th 2016. The Banyan Tree will be lit at 6:30pm on December 3, 2016 by a special member of the community, with 6500 colored Christmas lights and 800 Lahaina residents and guests in attendance. Sixty four lamp posts on Front Street are also decorated with Christmas wreaths.

The Banyan Tree will be lit for the entire holiday season December 3rd-to January 1st, 2017.


One of the most famous landmarks in Lahaina, the Banyan Tree was planted in 1873 by Sheriff Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Missionary. The tree was brought from India, and was only 8 feet tall at the time of planting. It now has a dozen main trunks, and spreads over the better part of an acre.


Keiki activities will kick off at 2pm with the arrival of Santa at the North Pole sponsored by 5A Rent A Space. Other activities include cookie decorating, sponsored by Honolulu Cookie Company, face painting and Christmas crafts. In addition, the LahainaTown Action Committee requests one canned or non perishable food item for admission to the “North Pole” winter wonderland.


Join in the fun with this Lahaina island-style event with a holiday arts and crafts fair along with a variety of local musicians. Including Lahainaluna High School Band for the actual lighting. Music beginning at 9am on Saturday and continuing on Sunday at 9am

MAPA's NUTCRACKER SWEETS
December 10, 2016 • 7:00 pm & December 11, 2016 • 3:00 pm
Maui audiences are in for a sweet treat this holiday season when Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) presents Nutcracker Sweets, a delightful family-friendly production of the treasured classic featuring 150 MAPA students.
With sumptuous costumes and inspired choreography set to the timeless Tchaikovsky score, Nutcracker Sweets is a must-see holiday event for all ages.
