HAWAIIAN HERITAGE FILM FESTIVAL: HEART STRINGS
Mon. October 11, 2010

For nearly 100 years Kamaka and Sons have crafted fine musical instruments from their tiny shop in Honolulu. Of all the early Hawaiian manufacturers who were crafting instruments at the start of the 20th century, only one, Kamaka and Sons, remains in business today. HEART STRINGS chronicles how the Kamaka and Sons Ukulele Company have successfully carried on their namesake business, but at its heart this film examines how Hawaiian values have shaped the company and how those values reflect a unique worldview and identity. Theirs is a story about hard work, fortitude, honesty and creativity as seen through a distinctly Hawaiian point of view, rooted in such concepts as Aloha, Malama, and Pono.

Discussions and a question and answer time will follow the screening.
Tickets: $10
