Kaanapali – Paradise Beach and Historic Resort Community

Kaanapali is an area of Maui on the western coast that encompasses more than six square miles, 3 of which are uninterrupted, white sand beaches. Named as one of the  Top 25 Beaches in America by Trip Advisor’s 2015 Traveler’s Choice Awards, Kaanapali Beach is the ideal getaway.

Kaanapali was Hawaii’s first master-planned resort community, with development started in the 1960’s it became a model for developing inclusive resort communities around the world. Kaanapali was once a tropical retreat for Maui’s royalty. The stunning sunsets, calm waves and pristine beaches beckoned to the ancient rulers. Pu‘u Keka‘a, now called Black Rock, was a cliff made infamous by Chief Kahekili. The Hawaiian people believed that this sacred point was where deceased souls left the physical world and entered the spiritual world. The Chief would intimidate his rivals by diving into the waters below to prove his courage and skill. Today the rite is honored every evening at sundown when a cliff diver jumps into the ocean below.
